Understanding Behavior Modification

Two men with two dogs in a grassy yard.

When working with families on behavior modification.

Families bring us their concerns about the unwanted behavior(s) they wish to correct.

We have two questions for them.

1) What behavior would you prefer your dog was doing instead of the unwanted behavior?

2) How much time have you spent positively training your dog the behavior that you wish they were doing instead?

If a Family has tried correcting the issue(s) on their own before working with us and were unsuccessful.

We then look at what skills or behaviors they were asking of their dog when the undesired behavior was taking place.

If the issue is presenting itself and the skills that are being asked have not been positively trained correctly. We then have to go back and positively work on these skills.

Therefor in a circumstance in which an unwanted behavior is taking place, and we look too correct and redirect the unwanted behavior to a skill which our dog has been positively trained correctly.

Because the behavior has been trained correctly, we know they will have the success to be able to solicit the correct behavior(s) we are asking.

Going forward we will also have the confidence in this and any setting in which we are looking to make sure are dog(s) are happy to be on their best behavior; because it has been earned through working with them and utilizing positive training.
