Dog Training Advice for Dog Owners

Do Acknowledge good behaviors. 

-By going out of your way to acknowledge the good choices and behaviors your dog is making you are communicating to them and teaching them that those are the behaviors they should be doing. By following up that acknowledgment with positive reinforcement such as praise or praise and treats that is reinforcing those choices and actions so they happen more frequently and consistently. 

Do Not punish unwanted behaviors. 

-No hitting, yelling, or force full corrections. This does not communicate to your dog what they should be doing instead. This does not encourage your dog to want to listen to you. Punishment will not help you build a good trusting relationship with your dog. 

Do have a plan and a goal.

-No matter the age of your dog. Whether you are introducing something new, working on correcting or teaching something different. Setting a plan gives you a guide toward your end goal. 

Do Not be unprepared and reactive.

-By not establishing any positive basic training. You and your dog will lack any foundation of mutual understanding. You will find yourselves in a position of reactivity, because you have not communicated to your dog how they should behave in various domestic environments. 

Do have active daily involvement. 

-By setting you and your dog up for positive success. You can look forward to new opportunities and experiences. With this proactiveness you can have the confidence in the positive relationship you are building with your dog. 

Do Not Be rarely involved. 

-Quality non distracted time. If you are not spending time giving your dog undivided attention especially during training. Then there is no reason that they should want to listen to you. It is the owners responsibility to put their dog in a position to succeed. This is earned through positive training and reinforcement.
